Paver Restorations
Currently, clients and homeowners chose these paver materials in order to create rustic, old world or Mediterranean-styled environments. Pavers are mainly composed of clay and many are hand made--the manufacturing process is based on age-old methods. Depending on the material, they are “fired”, “sun dried” or “cured” leaving them with varying degrees hardness and porosity. Substantial variations in the paver color, surface texture and finish are expected since many are manufactured to have a more rustic, antique or worn appearance.
OverLay/Concrete Restorations
Clients chose concrete due to its versatility, ease of care, lower cost, and stylistic preferences. It is composed of rocks or aggregate, sand or fine aggregate, water and cement. These properties and other additives can be manipulated to produce different characteristics that affect color, consistency, surface texture, strength and other factors. Variations in concrete color and surface texture are common with all concrete. Still, some are manufactured to appear much like stone or antique materials that can have a more rustic and mottled presentation.
LikeNu Driveway Restorations
The most common type of concrete clients choose is basic grey concrete due to its versatility, ease of care, low cost. It is composed of rocks or aggregate, sand or fine aggregate, fly ash, water and cement. These properties without any additives produce fairly predictable results but lacks in character.
FlagStone Restorations
Flagstone is a generic term applied to stone comprised of various materials like clay, sand, and shale that is easily split into layers. Yet, flagstone's like quartzite, slate and sandstone are quite different. For a few months, newer floors can feel slightly gritty. It is normal for clay-enriched slate and some sandstones to delaminate (separate in layers). Flagstone is more susceptible to mineral build-up and weathering where exposed regularly to water and the elements. A more viscous enhancer-sealer is best for most flagstones. They repel liquids and provide better protection, and also enrich the stone’s natural colors.
Travertine
Generally, Travertine is older than limestone but not as old as marble. Travertine is more porous than most other natural stones. Travertine is rich in calcium and is commonly confused with limestone. Yet, travertine rarely has seashells, a common characteristic of limestone. It is mostly formed through chemcial precipitation in cave-like and hot spring environments. Usually this stone is honed in finish (versus a polished marble) and is rougher in texture. Honed stones like Travertine are known for their inherent variations in color, surface texture, and finish.
